Oakland Everything Data Helps Yorkshire Water Become the Top-Performing Water Company on the Stream Platform

Oakland Everything Data, a long-term data partner to Yorkshire Water, has helped the utility company become the top-performing water company on the Stream platform, setting a benchmark for how Open Data can be delivered safely and at pace in the UK water sector.

Open Data is becoming a defining requirement for water companies in England and Wales, with Ofwat positioning it as the key enabler of improved services, transparency, and innovation across the sector. Yorkshire Water, serving more than five million people, needed to act quickly under clear regulatory pressure, including identifying priority datasets for release and developing an Open Data roadmap. 

In response, Oakland supported Yorkshire Water in building a safe and repeatable approach to publishing Open Data, combining rapid delivery through Stream with the strategy, governance, and operating model needed to scale.

Oakland tackled the delivery barriers faced across the sector, including limited time and resources, evolving standards, and the need for strong governance to manage quality, confidentiality, and risk.

To accelerate progress without compromising safety, Oakland delivered a dual-track programme that combined quick-win Open Data releases with a robust long-term foundation. This included an Open Data strategy and roadmap, a repeatable governance model for safe publication, and a value framework to prioritise high-impact datasets.

Alongside delivery through Stream, Oakland also supported stakeholder alignment across the business and helped embed ownership through training and practical tooling. This ensured Yorkshire Water built not only compliance outputs, but a scalable Open Data capability designed for long-term maturity and industry leadership.
